If Not That, Than Another
ALAN Istanbul will be hosting Komet from 17 November 2011 to 17 December 2011 with “I Got Up and Saw They’d Left Without Me!,” one of a series of solo exhibitions taking place throughout the month of November.
Large scale photographs and video works come together as an installation realized within the potential of the space itself. Visuals and videos surfacing on a relational level to the artist’s past exhibitions as well as his current series invite the audience into a process of reciprocal exhange with Komet. In this sense, a shared area of experience comes into being over both the artist’s personal history and artistic emergence, and the common impulse of the cultural, social and political grounds which he has marked.
Altogether exhibitionistic, witty, and childlike, the allure of Komet’s aura with the intensity of the exhibition’s layered subtexts creates a relationship that is difficult and only accountable over the course of time. “I Got Up and Saw They’d Left Without Me!” presents a good opportunity, especially for young viewers, to be able to understand the unique place of Komet in contemporary art.
“Hiç kimseyi okurken Shakespeare’de olduğu gibi parçalanmaz yüreğim:
Soytarılığı böyle gerekli bulmak için nasıl acı çekmiş olmalıdır bir insan!”
Friedrich Nietzsche (Ecce Homo)
“Who are you?”
“I–I hardly know, sir, just at present–at least I know who I was when I got up this morning,
but I think I must have been changed several times since then.”
Lewis Carroll (Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland)
